Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere
How Crested Peak Consultants Came to Be
My pursuit to become a literacy specialist began in 1993 while earning my degree at California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo, California.
When I learned that 2 out of 5 Americans were partially literate or worse, I enrolled in an intensive literacy and comprehension development course offered by Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes. Since their international headquarters are located in San Luis Obispo, this allowed me to continue my education earning my degree while learning how to apply their evidence-based instruction methodologies.
I was incredibly fortunate to receive instruction and guidance from the company namesakes Pat and Phyllis Lindamood and Nanci Bell. As co-founders and dedicated educators, they developed and pioneered programs focused on improving sensory-cognitive processes essential for reading, comprehension, spelling and math.
This rare opportunity afforded me incredible benefits as I was actively mentored by the inventors of this ground-breaking method of instruction that also progressed in mobile literacy clinics across the country. In addition to learning these results-driven teaching skills, I precisely paced, evaluated and monitored student’s progress.
Through these expansive experiences, I have been exposed to a variety of students with learning differences across the spectrum, from congenital conditions such as Fragile X Syndrome, Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, and dysgraphia, dyscalculia conditions to undiagnosable or misdiagnosed conditions. I have also worked with students with complex neurologically-based developmental disorder such as Aspergers, autistic spectrum disorders and students who have experienced traumatic brain injuries or TBI.
